For the past several years, patrons have been able to get free assistance preparing and filing their tax returns through a cooperative effort with AARP Tax-Aide, the nation’s largest free, volunteer-run tax preparation service.

In order to continue this service at the Library for the 2012 tax year, at least two additional volunteer tax preparers are needed.

Volunteers do not need to be AARP members to participate, but they should be computer-literate and have some familiarity with federal and state income tax laws and regulations.

As a volunteer, you will receive free tax training, followed by an IRS certification testing.

In 2011, over 200 MPL patrons received assistance in preparing and filing their tax returns.
