We’ve blogged about “Talk Like a Pirate” Day before.  For moi, the celebration wouldn’t be complete without a quick look at our book trailer for my favorite pirate novel.

You should dress-up like a pirate, like Sammy the Toucan did in the video, to get in the proper mood.  Talking like a pirate may look easy, but it takes lots of practice to get it exactly right.  Try it out at work or at home this Wednesday. Strange looks mean that you’re doing it perfectly.

Shine, Shine, Shine is a unique love story and an adventure between worlds. Lydia Netzer delivers a book about death, challenges, and what it means to be human. At times, even though I’m not married with children, I could relate to the anger, sadness, and triumphs of these characters. Again, it’s wonderful when you can feel and relate to a book like that. You should be able to at least finish the book in a weeks time, and it is not challenging at all. It was very refreshing to read such an interesting and not your average story. The books I have read lately seem to have the same tone about them. I never guessed right on the ending, if that gives you some insight.

When Maxon met Sunny, he was seven years, four months, and eighteen days old. Or, he was 2,693 rotations of the earth old. Maxon was different, as you can guess. Sunny was different, too. They were different together. Now, twenty years later, they are married, and Sunny wants, more than anything, to be “normal.” She’s got the housewife thing down, but Maxon, a genius engineer, is on a NASA mission to the moon, programming robots for a new colony. Once they were two outcasts who found unlikely love in each other: a wondrous, strange relationship formed from an urgent desire for connection. But now they’re parents to an autistic son. And Sunny is pregnant again. And her mother is dying in the hospital. Their marriage on the brink of imploding, and they’re at each other’s throats with blame and fear. What exactly has gone wrong?

When an accident in space puts the mission in peril, everything Sunny and Maxon have built hangs in the balance. Dark secrets, long-forgotten murders, and a blong wig all come tumbling to the light. And nothing will ever be the same….(cue cliff hanger music)

Everybody puts off something she or he (or s/he) doesn’t very much want to do.  For us felines, it’s called prudence.  We think through everything quite carefully before we commit to any action.  It may look like procrastination, but appearances are deceiving.

Seriously, don’t let time pass by when there is important work to do.  First and foremost, there’s my din-dins.  Minions, you know what I like.  Next, I need a nice, safe, warm, dry, and comfortable place to snooze.  Around here, that’s outside the Library, but I’ve got my favorite spots “marked,” if you catch my drift.

Well, I’d better finish this blog posting.  These things don’t write themselves.  Wait, I think a nap takes priority.  Later is good.

Shelley was deliberately vague about Victor Frankenstein’s procedures in reanimating his creation–although she was versed in Galvanism and the current (no pun intended) scientific investigations regarding the human body’s function–presumably because she did not wish to outrage early 19th century readers with grisly details.  Shelley was probably more intrigued by the moral and philosophical issues than the precise scientific concepts involved.  Still, the novel remains the best early example of science fiction and provided generations of contemporary and future authors of horror stories with a solid template for generating a truly terrifying tale.
